Picked these up at a local gun show.

Note what looks like red lacquer on the heads of the two supposed tracer rounds on the right.

Swiss 9mm(surplus?)

A few years ago before RWS was available I remember there being some Swiss 9x19 ammo available. I think it was surplus as it was in plain carboard boxes(not the white boxes the Swiss Army uses.) Any ideas on what I'm talking about?

Just completed purchase of 2 cases at http://shop.militaryshooters.com/catalog/product.asp?ret_id=140211&pid=1031063.  Seemed very reasonable to me.  They say that if you order 8 of the 60-round packages they ship in the original swiss case.  Hope that pans out.  They do quote shipping before final checkout, so you know full price before committing.  With shipping and option to require adult signature, comes out to 53 cents per.  I didn't find anything better in my search this evening, so went ahead.

Were these cartridges used in all automatic weapons such as Light Machine guns, MG11 and MG51 and the StGw57?

7.5 x 53.5mm Swiss wood blank model 1890/03

This cartridge is brass cased, with a brass primer and black primer seal.  The case length conforms to the older 1889 ball cartridge. The “bullet” is green stained wood and secured in the case by coning at the mouth and a three segment crimp low down in the neck.  The bullet/case juncture is waxed.  I show various headstamps.  Was this bullet “too fat” to fit the short lead into the rifling of the M1911 and later weapons?

7.5 x 55.5mm Swiss Grenade launching cartridge model 1944 (Treib-Pat.44)

I show two variants of the post-1948 version of the Treib-Pat.44.  Both have extended brass cases with a zinc wash finish.  Primers are of brass, without any visible sealant. Both have a wood plug in the nose and a “cross-hatch” knurled band around the lower case body.

The later (1982) one has the addition of six indents into the neck.  Are these to prevent the wood plug being pushed inside the case?

7.5 x 55.5mm Swiss wood blank model 1911

This cartridge is brass cased, with a brass primer and black primer seal or steel cased with a brown lacquer coating during WW2.  The case length conforms to the newer 1911 ball cartridge. The “bullet” is green stained wood and secured in the case by coning at the mouth and a three, later four, segment crimp low down in the neck.  The bullet is distinctly slimmer than the earlier wood bullet blanks, is this because of changes in the chambering of the rifles?  I show various headstamps.

Canadians planning to purchase ammo in the USA

Just a heads up if  you are a Canadian planning a  trip  to  the US  and also planning  to purchase  some  ammo  while  you are   down  there, because  as we  all know,  you  can get a better  deal  and   bring back up  to  5000  rounds  as long as  you  declare it  and pay  the  duty/taxes at  the border.
Canadian  customs have no problem with  you  bringing it in. The problem  arises if  you are  caught transporting it  while  you are in  the USA. Under  the BAFTE, (Bureau of ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS) you are not  allowed  to  export  ammo  without  a permit and if  you  try  and get  caught on  the US  side  you  could be  subject  to imprisonment up  to  30  days without ...

This gentleman goes into detail showing/comparing the GP11 ammo against itself. e.g. Grain differences between pulled bullets & powder charges. As well as chronograph averages & differences of these rounds.
This isn't me by the way... I just thought it was a great video to share with all of you!

Can any one assist me in finding some original 7.5x53.5 GP 90 ammo?

1979 Altdorf should have the case mouth crimp and have the lube ring, right?

I just bought a bunch more 7.5x55 from Samco, advertised as 1979 production by Altdorf.  Am I correct that these cartridges should have the mouth crimp and have the sealant/lubricant ring at the case mouth?

A 1924 GP90/23 case.

I bought a single round of 1924 dated GP11 back at the last local gun show in September.

Interesting measurements:

image

If you can't read it
0.301" at mid exposed bullet
0.3065" bullet just above case mouth
0.335" at case mouth below the taper crimp.
0.336" where it seems bullet base ends.
0.333" at shoulder and case mouth junction.

Seems the bullet tapers all the way to the base and they used a tapered mouth crimp on it, just like a 38spl wad-cutter case.

The terms "Blindepatronen" and "Markierpatronen" are both used to describe various versions of 7.5mm Swiss blanks, what is the difference between these two names please?

so i picked up 10 packs of GP11 from aim surplus and the batch i got had a date of 1982. i noticed that this batch does not have the wax around the crimp like the older stuff does. my question is what else is different versus the older stuff if anything and has anybody noticed anything different in how the newer stuff shoots?
